Camping is a great adventure that is full of fun and part of that fun is eating outside in the open air.
That means you have to prepare food in the outdoors. You have to have the right equipment, and it has to be portable enough to take camping.
Not sure what you will need? Here is a camping guide that will tell you what items to bring on your camping trip:
The Right Grill
There are portable BBQs and grills that are ideal for camping. The first choice that you have to make is: Charcoal, gas or firewood?
Charcoal is good for your budget. Charcoal and firewood can be moved around in the BBQ so you can have direct or indirect heat. Nothing can match the taste of a charcoal or firewood BBQ.
Gas is convenient. The heat it puts out is fast and consistent, and it doesn’t make a mess with ashes. However, you don’t get the charcoal or firewood flavour.
Campfire grills can just be put over a campfire and cooked on. It is simple and only provides direct heat, but you get that smoky grilled flavour.
Cooler
A cooler is essential for keeping food and drink cool. Be safe! Make sure your meat is kept at the right temperature.
Aluminum Foil
If you have a campfire, you can wrap food up in tinfoil and put it right in the coals! Aluminum foil can also be used to wrap up any food or leftovers.
Coffee Percolator or Kettle
A coffee percolator is great to have, but it has only one job. A kettle provides boiled water that can be used for a multitude of tasks, including providing hot water to clean dishes or to pour over coffee grounds in a bodum, or French press for coffee.
Cast Iron Dutch Oven
You can put the Dutch oven into the coals, or hang it from a tri-pod. You can bake by putting coals on the lid, or leave the lid off. So many options with a Dutch oven.
Camping Sets
You can buy pre-made sets for camping, and because they are pre-made you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything. They are also designed to be as small as possible or collapsible. There are sets for cutlery, cookware, pots and pans, dishes and cups.
Tongs
Whether you are cooking on a BBQ or grabbing an aluminum foil wrapped package of food from the campfire, tongs will help you move food around without burning yourself.
4 in 1 Camping Utensil
A utensil that includes a bottle opener, a sharp knife, a fork and a spoon, all in a convenient collapsible unit that fits into a single case.
Dishwashing Stations
Two basins together that make up separate washing and drying stations, so you can wash and dry your dishes, then the basins fold up for easy storage and transport after the dishes are done.
With all of these tools and equipment, cooking while camping is easy and fun!
